It is nice to allow players to change the appearance of their items through transmogs and cosmetics.
However, unrestricted use of this comes with issues:
- Immersion is broken when low-level players can use cosmetics that make them look too powerful for their level.
- Users can abuse the system to confuse their opponents: Like, for example if they make their fire-weapon look like a frost-weapon to trick their enemies.
Players want a solution that:
- allows players to customize their character's appearance,
- without breaking immersion,
- matches the players appearance with his play-style,
- can't be abused to confuse enemies.
@Mr.NobodyTransmogs that require a certain power to use
Only allow the appearance of items to be changed to items of similar quality and/or power. So a level 1 item can't have its appearance changed to look like a level 100 item.
- easiest approach to be implemented.
- solves the issue: low-power players looking powerful.
- also solves the issue: high-power players looking weak.
In reply toMr.Nobody⬆:@Mr.NobodyWeapons that change based on item+player power
Objective:
Make it easier to see how powerful a player is, while at the same time allowing for transmogs and cosmetics.Basic idea:
- Items that change their base appearance as the item is upgraded.
- Weapons that gain a "magical glow effect" based on the player's magical attributes & abilities.
The base item design
The basic design of certain items could change as they are upgraded and according to how they are upgraded. This forms the basis of the item's look. This takes extra design work, and therefore should be restricted to weapons and certain rare transmogs and cosmetics.

The magical glow
Over the base appearance of the item, it also gains a magical glow based on how many points the player has spent on each magical/ability attribute.
- If the player uses fire magic, the weapon would look like it is enchanted with fire.
- A player with 10 points in fire will have a stronger magical glow than a player with 5 points in fire.
Expected results:
- Players can easily see how powerful a player is from afar (the higher the players fire power, the stronger the fiery glow on his weapons).
- When players purchase cosmetics, they don't instantly look like max-level items. This keeps the sense of progression alive while allowing for a cosmetics shop.
- Evolving appearances can be restricted to rarer items and/or cosmetics, to keep design costs low.
- Item glow can be designed once, and applied to multiple items without much change. This also keeps design costs low.
